Special Needs — KA-CARE
Aquatic Therapy and Inclusive Swimming Education
Kiddies Aqua presents lessons for children with special needs — and our special-needs kids are VERY special to us. We take individual care of each one of them and build a strong trust relationship that lets us add real value to their development. With specialised, individually focused attention from our instructors, these children learn far faster than they would in larger groups, and develop a powerful sense of accomplishment as they master each stroke in the water. Our instructors get into the water with them and present every lesson in a fun-filled, productive manner — so each lesson becomes another valuable building block in the special development of these special people. Sessions are held in heated water, which promotes muscle relaxation and reduces sensory overload.
What you will learn:
- Specialised, individually focused one-on-one attention from our instructors
- A strong trust relationship built around each child's pace and personality
- Fun-filled, productive lessons — our instructors get into the water with them
- A real sense of accomplishment as each child masters new strokes
- Motor, cognitive, and emotional development with every lesson
- Sensory integration support in the warm, controlled pool environment
- We work mostly with children diagnosed with Down Syndrome, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, autism, blindness, and deafness
Each lesson forms another valuable building block in the special development of these special people. Every individual deserves the joy, freedom, and safety that swimming provides — and our team is trained to meet each learner exactly where they are, with patience, skill, and genuine care.

What KA-CARE looks like

Every photograph above was taken at Kiddies Aqua Swimming Academy. Special-needs lessons are delivered one-on-one, with our instructor in the water alongside each learner.

Jan-Herman Els
Jan-Herman is one of our ex-swimmers who currently holds 11 world age-group records. He has Down syndrome and started with us at the age of nine — at first not able to walk from one side of the pool to the other.
Within three years he had mastered every swimming stroke and begun competing. Today he is the South African Champion in several of his events and represents the country regularly at international level.
Every child who comes to us is met exactly where they are — and given the chance to discover just how far they can go.
