Baby Aquatic Education

Amphibies Baby Self-Rescue Method

One-on-one rolling and back-floating lessons for babies aged 6–24 months, with safety limits every parent should understand.

What is the Amphibies method?

Les Bébés Amphibies is the infant aquatic education method used in our Self-Rescue for Babies programme. Lessons focus on practising a roll onto the back, balance in a back-float and calm breathing with an instructor. These are learning goals, not a promise that a baby can survive an accidental entry into water.

Who are lessons for?

Our baby programme is for ages 6–24 months. An instructor assesses readiness and discusses the appropriate starting point with the parent. Progress and the time needed to develop skills differ between babies.

What happens in a lesson?

Sessions are one-on-one with the instructor in the water and parents observing nearby. Practice is adapted to the baby's progress. Our enrolment terms specify baby-floating sessions of 5–15 minutes; confirm the schedule with your branch. Only practise activities as directed by your instructor, with direct adult supervision.

Lessons do not make a child drown-proof

Swimming and self-rescue lessons do not guarantee survival, and learned skills are not guaranteed to last for life. Always provide active adult supervision around water, keep young children within arm's reach, and use secure pool barriers to restrict unsupervised access. Lessons are one part of a layered approach, not a replacement for supervision, barriers or emergency preparedness.

Water-safety guidance and next steps

The WHO drowning fact sheet describes multiple prevention measures. It does not establish a survival guarantee for this specific infant method.
